The British Cyprus Memorial

To mark the 50th anniversary of the ending of the Cyprus Emergency, The British Memorial was unveiled on Remembrance Day, November 8 2009, in the Old British Cemetery, Kyrenia. On it are inscribed the names of the 371 British servicemen — 28 members of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, 274 British Army, and 69 Royal Air Force — who died in Cyprus on active service 1955-1959.

LEST WE FORGET

The Cyprus memorial trust has been formed to honor the 371 servicemen that died during the four year conflicts lead to the independence of Cyprus in 1960.The memorial was unveiled in Kyrenia on Remembrance day on 8th November 2009. The memorial is to remember the 371 that died including; 28 from the Royal Marines and Royal Navy, 69 from the RAF, and 274 from the Army.
The resting place of those remembered is in the British military cemetery at Wayne's Keep, which has restricted access. For this reason the memorial was placed in the old British cemetery in Kyrenia.
We believe there are many veterans in Cyprus and in the UK who are unaware of the dedication service for the Memorial. We hope to arrange a trip in March 2010.
